Another thing I love about Rome....

This may look like soda but actually it is VINO!!!!!!  Today Dad and I went on a food "field trip" to the wonderful Trionfale Market, right down the street.  Of course, we got luscious fruit, impeccable tomatoes, fresh mozzarella di buffalo, genovese foccacia and pasta but what we really came for is to try the wine.  So this is how it works--there are 4-5 wine vendors, all of whom have big stainless steel casks filled with wine.  We picked the one with the largest selection and lots of Italian women. :-)  You grab a bottle (since we did not have any to re-fill yet!) and then we ordered.  A Rosato Toscano for E 1.20 and  a Tuscan Red for E 1 .6.  OK,  we figured for less than $2 we'd pitch it if it was really undrinkable.  BUT because this is Italy, both are super drinkable!!!  The Rosato tastes very much like the Santa Cristina I like at  E 6 (which seems cheap anyway) and the red is a great table wine.  Wow.  This is a good thing.  I feel very smart, frugal and Roman all at the same time.  I am trying not to get too happy about my wine buying finesse since that is not exactly a skill set I want my kids to learn from me, but hey, it is pretty cool.  That whole recycling thing again too-this is actually good for the environment....Salute!
