Around the corner from the Gesu and on the way to the Ghetto, after you've walked through the crowds at Largo di Torre Argentina, the main stop has to be the yummy pizzaria, Pizzaria Florida. We found it 2 years ago and went back daily and sometimes twice in a day to eat the squash and proscuitto pizza. Alas, being summer, that is not on the menu. Seasonal it is---tomatoes, fresh ricotta and basil. Delizioso!!! We had to hold ourselves back in major levels of self-control to not go get more! Going back soon.
And for the second piece....well, we are big fans of squash blossoms (they remind of of our beloved Mexico and quesadillas made with flor de calabaza) and they are out in all the markets and in everything. Squash blossoms stuffed with mozzarella and fried? Lead me to 'em!! And they are all over pizzas, everywhere. I had a faint memory about that but I couldn't quite remember until we got this luscious piece of pizza....YUM, biting in, a flash of what that memory was...ANCHOVIES! Squash blossoms and anchovies are the big combo. Yikes. Now we are all about being cool foodies, but we have to tell the truth. We hate anchovies. We like our Caesar salads to forego and forget anchovies, we don't want to put anchovy paste in anything and goodness me, we don't want to find them permeating a perfectly beautiful piece of pizza. We tried, we spit out (sorry) and we threw away. Still the components of a perfect slice were all there...sans the anchovies.
